What is better Staying At Home For College or Going Away ?

I attentd Missouri Western State University, which is no more then 4 1/2 hours away from my house.
So if something happens to me at least someone can come to my rescue with out having to spend 400 on a plane ticket. (lol)
But then it’s also good b/c I can grow up, and learn how to take care of myself.
Most teenagers want to stay home for college, and thats fine. But do you really have” freedom “, still coming home to Mom and Dad everyday?
Most teens who stay home get their own place, buy a car, work, and try to balance school, relationships, etc.
Which is my opinion; is a full blown wind of “life”!
As for me because I chose to go away for school, I dont have to work, I don’t need a car, and I dont have to figure out how I’m going to pay the light bill. lol
I charged $11,000 to my “goveremental charge card(FAFSA) ” to keep all the junk on, and dont have to pay them back until 2011. And not all in one sum

Going away to college is an excellent idea because you learn responsibility. You don’t have your parents to pick up the slack if you falter.

Paying back a college loan is not as easy as you might think, but it is worth it in the long run.

    Good luck!

its nice to stay home b/c your parents or family will be able to bail you out if you need a ride somewhere or need to borrow a car and you’ll have connections around where you live for a decent job or if you need help with something and you can save more money if you live at home for when you have to repay your loans. living on campus is nice b/c of the whole social scene and closer to clbuttes but some dorms r not worth it due to that they’re really old and small and gross but good luck to yah

Going away or staying home for college is entirely your decision and maybe that of your parents/family if they have a say. Here is what you need to do.
Write out all the advantages and disadvantages of each option and weigh them against each other. Now note that you have to be very realistic and true to yourself. Don’t leave out any points and then you will be able to see which options pays you better.
Some people stay at home for college and its better for them while for others the better option will be to go away. There is no hard and fast rule about it.
Most importantly there is the part of life that we all cannot see and that is the future. Today option A may be good for you but things may change tomoroow and option A will be come a nightmare and you wish you had never made that choice. So what do we do? This is what I would do.
As a christian, I believe that God holds and knows the future and so I tell Him in prayer what I want to do and ask Him to lead me to the right choice. This leading may come in a form of blocking all other ways and opening just one opportunity and that is the right way. Someother times He speaks directly, by dreams, inner convictions or through people I know to advise on the best choice. He never fails. Its like walking in the dark in an unknown valley…which would you choose? To hold the hands of someone who knows the terrain or the have your own dim flash light? I would go for the first option and Jesus is the one who knows the way through any dark terrain of life. Trust Him today The dim flashlight is our own limited understanding of things around us. This is how you have Jesus as your Lord and saviour and have Him lead you all the way:
A Admit that you are a sinner
B Beleive that Jesus is God’s Son
C Confess the name of Jesus and ask Him to come into your life.
That way you are on the right path…FOREVER
    Good luck!

I don’t know it’s true that “most teenagers want to stay home for college.” Most of my friends were really looking forward to going somewhere different, and the ones who did stay close by were determined to at least live on campus so they’d have some independence. Also, because my school didn’t offer on-campus housing after the first two years, and FAFSA wasn’t all that generous to me, I did have to worry about rent and utilities. Everyone’s going to have a different experience, and I think it makes more sense to judge how people handle things on an individual basis than to try and do a universal evaluation of which works better.

I have friends who did both. Personally I moved 2 hours away for college. This was nice because I could go home on the weekends.

My friends who stayed home for college had a lot more support. Leaving home for the first time was scary. I had no friends and didn’t know anybody for the first weeks of college. It would have been nice to have my family to help support.

Another benefit of staying home is delaying the stress of ‘the real world’. I had to get an apartment my sophomore year and start paying rent and bills while my friends didn’t have to. It’s nice you won’t have to work because it’s hard to juggle school and work, but remember you’ll be paying those loans off for years and years to come.

It’s really a personal decision. Now, I can’t imagine living at home with parents, but I still enjoy going to my friend’s houses who live with their parents because I get that family feeling I miss sometimes.

If you like going away to college, why do you need to ask, unless out of curiosity? Anyway, I’ll answer your question. I went away to college, and loved it. I could do whatever I wanted on my schedule, without having to check in with parents every hour. I also found it was good for my social life. Since I was 6 hours away, I couldn’t go home every weekend and I couldn’t hide from people. I was forced to make friends. In short, I think going away is a great idea, particularly for people who are shy or have been sheltered by their parents.
